Frequently Asked Questions

Bentonite clay gets its name from Fort Benton, Wyoming where large deposits of this amazing clay are found. Sometimes it is referred to as montmorillonite clay after a region in France. It is formed from volcanic ash and is rich in minerals. It is a natural clay that has detoxification properties and has been used therapeutically for thousands of years. Its healing power is derived from its rich mineral content and electromagnetic charge. It works by adsorption and attaches heavy metals and toxins to its surface like a magnet.

The two primary types of clay are Calcium Bentonite and Sodium Bentonite clay. All bentonite clays contain both calcium and sodium but are distinguished by which type is more abundant.

Calcium bentonite clay is a softer clay and superior for health and cosmetic applications. It is also a more expensive clay and preferred for skin and bath products. Sodium bentonite clay is still useful and an excellent clay for many reasons but we prefer the calcium variety for our products.

Clays have been used therapeutically for thousands of years for many different applications. Its detoxification properties come from its negative electrical charge which binds toxins like heavy metals to its surface.

We recommend using the clay in a bath or using it as a mask. The mask can be applied to the face or any part of the body. It is great for aching hands and feet or under arms. It is great for acne, softer skin and relieves pain and inflammation

Our Arise & Shine Bentonite Clay Detox Bath contains premium desert calcium bentonite clay, magnesium sulfate, and sea salt. Our clay is domestically sourced here in the United States!

Start by running a hot bath; a hotter bath will result in a stronger detox effect. In a non-metal bowl gradually mix two to four cups of clay with warm water in a bowl until the mixture is free of clumps. Make sure you use non-metal utensils to mix the clay. A blender can be used if desired. Slowly pour this mixture into the bath of warm water.

Alternatively, you can sprinkle the clay directly into the bath but be careful not to breathe in clay dust. Allow clay to hydrate. Break up any clumps with your hands. Our product contains premium clay and should have very few clumps.

Try to ensure you soak as much of your whole body as possible. Soak for at least 20 minutes.

Stay hydrated with mineral rich water before and after the bath. We recommend rinsing off in the shower after the bath to remove any excess clay.

It depends on what your health goals and desired results are. It is safe to take baths every day, but we recommend taking at least two to three per week over a period of months or even years.

Doctors recommend that pregnant women should not take baths in general or clay baths. Consult with your doctor if breastfeeding. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. You can test by mixing a small portion of clay with water and apply to a small area of skin for a few minutes. A little red patch or slight irritation is normal and should go away after a few minutes. Bentonite clay has been used safely for thousands of years.

We recommend two to four cups depending on bath size, but you can really use as little or as much as you want. More clay will result in a higher concentration and a stronger detox effect. Always start with a smaller amount and work your way up. Detoxification side effects can include headache and nausea. We recommend hydrating with mineral rich water before and after the bath.

Absolutely! Rest assured that a clay bath is safe for any age, and we regularly give our young children clay baths. Concerned parents can test by mixing a little clay with water and applying it to a small area before bathing.

Use a smaller amount of clay for children and ensure they stay hydrated with mineral rich water.

We recommend taking a bath for at least 15 minutes. You may receive additional benefits by staying in the tub for twenty to thirty minutes.

Yes. A hotter bath will result in a stronger detoxification effect but ensure you can stay in the bath for at least fifteen minutes.

Yes. We recommend rinsing off in the shower to remove any excess clay.

Our experience is that we receive benefits after a single bath, however, everyone is different. Detoxification can be a gradual process that improves with more baths over time. There may be black or rust-colored sediment that is the result of toxins being cleared from the body.

Everyone has different body chemistry and levels of toxins that are accumulated in the body. Headaches, nausea, fatigue, or a lighter body sensation are all normal side effects of detoxification which generally improve with more detox baths. Our experience is that we feel revived, refreshed and calmer but everyone is different.

We recommend using a smaller amount of clay and gradually increasing until you are experienced with how it affects you individually. Drinking mineral rich water before and after a detox bath is highly recommended and will minimize discomfort.

Yes! Our products are all natural and no perfumes or chemicals are added to our products.

Yes. We recommend mixing our product in a non-metal bowl and utensils before adding it to the tub. This ensures that the clay is properly hydrated and dissolved in water. It is possible larger clumps could clog drain if clay is not properly mixed and hydrated. A blender can be used to avoid clumps. We have been using clay baths for years and have not had any plumbing issues.

After draining the tub there will be some sediment that can easily be rinsed away. Our clay is very fine and mixes well with very few clumps. Sprinkling the powder in the bath will result in more clumps but is still effective.

Clay is a natural product formed from volcanic ash that may contain certain heavy metals in low quantities. All bentonite clays contain aluminum. The aluminum stays bonded within the clay and is not harmful. Rest assured that our supplier tests to ensure that our clay is pure, low in heavy metals and completely safe for cosmetic applications.

Our clay is safe for cosmetics but not rated for taking it internally
